Dark Souls Walkthrough Part 2 – Tutorial
After the opening cinematic hit the interact button (A/X) to pillage the corpse dropped in with you. It has one dungeon key on it. Walk forward to the cell door and use it to open it up. Now run down the hall in front of you. You will find a second message telling you which button to hit to attack (RB/R1). Use this to kill the nearby walking corpse for some quick experience. Now continue forward to the stairs. You will find a second message telling you how to use a Strong attack (RT/R2). There is another walking corpse nearby for you to practice this on. At the base of the stairs you will find another message telling how to dash (Left Thumbstick + B/O). At the top you will get a message about a weakness. Continue forward for a number of messages. The last one in this chain tells you what to do to lock onto your opponents. Use the lock-on feature to find the next corpse to kill it. After that head to the right and through the doorway at the top of a few stairs from where you found the corpse. Head forward through the doorway and then up the nearby ladder.
Head through the nearby door. Through the door you receive a message telling you how to recover your HP. Walk toward the next message. It says simply “Here”. Finish with the message and turn to the nearby sword. You will be given the option to kindle the bonfire. Do so and your will be restored if you took damage getting this far. Now head up the nearby stairs to the door. The message there reads “Good luck”. Go on through the door. Time for the first real fight against the Asylum Demon. He is an insanely hard fight and if you manage to read the messages they do tell you to get away. Head along the left-hand side and you will find an open gate. Once you are though it, it will close and ensure Demon will not immediately follow.
Head down the stairs to find another bonfire. Light it and rest a moment. You very likely took damage running from the Demon. Once restored head for the next message that reads “Get your shield”. Head for the nearby door and be ready to dodge some arrows being fired at you. Now head forward to the first enclave in the hallway on the left. You will find a shield waiting there for you. Collect it and head back into the hallway toward the corpse shooting at you. If you take a lot of damage simply return to the bonfire and heal. At the end of the first strech of corridor where the archer was you will find another corpse to loot. Do so to get a better weapon. Take a moment to hit start then select the second option using RB/R1 to change your equipped weapon. You will do a lot more damage this way making it easier to kill something. Now head around the bend and transverse the white light.
Beyond the white light head over to the left, toward the balcony, then go to the right. Now you will see two sets of staircases. Turn to the right and go through the break in the wall. Listen to what the Knight has to say to get 5 Estus Flasks. The one going up has a corpse at the top that will throw a stone at you while the one leading down just takes you to a door. If you go up you will simply find a door that requires the key the Knight gave you. Head on through. You will find messages telling you how to change your manner of wielding your weapon. Head forward to encounter more corpses. Use your shield to protect yourself and start learning more about parrying (done with LT/L2) then use (RB/R1) for a counter attack. Consider simply transverseing the White Light when your cross it. Be warned as it does take you back to face the Asylum Demon. The better equipment helps immensely here. Also, you will be above him. Drop down onto him and while falling hit the Light Attack button. This is the plunging attack and takes out half his HP. Now keep moving around trying to get behind him. This inflicts critical damage making it possible for you to kill him more easily. Dodge or run away whenever he brings up that club. Keep moving and striking to achieve victory over this foe.
Head to the door on the far side of the room and use the Big Pilgrim Key to open it. Start making your way up the slope. Head to the left in the cemetery to find a soul tucked away on a ledge below. Move carefully to avoid falling off. At the top there is another cutscene that finishes out the tutorial.
