Dark Souls Walkthrough Part 5 – Upper Undead Burg

Immediately after you transverse the White Light, turn to your right and go up the ladder beside the stairs. There is an archer zombie above you who will shoot you. Kill him then scale down the ladder and continue along the path. You will encounter a Taurus Demon. This is a hard to kill fellow. Still, there is a place to gain some altitude so it is possible to use Plunging Attacks on him. This makes it a lot easier to simply get through as they do a notable amount of damage each time. It takes about 4-6 hits depending on your weapon. It may be a cheap tactic but it is incredibly effective.

Now head across the rest of the path to the next tower. You will see an opening for a staircase leading down. Before you go down it you will want to break the boxes to the left of it. There you will find a Large Lost Soul. Now head down the stairs. At the bottom go right and down to the terrace below. You will find a helpful NPC named Solaire of Astora. He will offer to help you as long as you are not hollowed. Talk to him a few times to get the White Soapstone so he can come and help you. He can only help in specific spots but he describes them well.

Now head back to where you came into this area and get ready for something tricky. There is a dragon on the far side of this bridge on top of a group of enemies. Be sure you are at full health. Start running toward the large group of enemies ahead with your shield up. Break to the right and go down the opening into the area below, staying on the stairs. Now head across the room to the left and down the next set of stairs. You will find a landing with a ladder on it. Walk over to the ladder and interact with it to set up a shortcut for yourself back up. This clears the way to the bonfire in Undead Burg. Heal and restock using the nearby merchant then climb back up the ladder. Here you have a choice: you can either ascend back to where the dragon is, attempt to claim the two items (Soul of a Nameless Soldier and a Claymore) there and complete the mad dash across the bridge or you can use the lower path to reach the Undead Parish. There are more rewards up top as you find another bonfire. If you go below be wary of the zombies as they can manage to push you over the ledge or you might stumble over it. There are also a trio of rats waiting for you below so be warned of them as well. Either way, you have made it to the Undead Parish.
