Dark Souls Walkthrough Part 23 – Darkroot Basin

As you emerge into the Darkroot Basin from the Darkroot Garden keep on the look out for a corpse. You will find it has the Leather Armor Set with a Longbow and arrows waiting for you after a short drop. Drop down to the right. Continue your ascent carefully as there is a Black Knight waiting for you and beyond it the Grass Crest Shield.

If you continue to descend then you will find a tunnel that leads to a bonfire. Beyond that you will find an elevator that leads to the Valley of the Drakes. It is a good area to visit soon but first there is a whole area to explore.

Head upwards from the bonfire. You will find a locked door on your right. If you collected the watchtower key earlier than you can use it to ascend up to Undead Burg and face off against Havel the Rock. If you skip on this, continue on forward to face Blue Crystal Golem. Only engage them one at a time as they are fierce fighters. They will come at you from a good distance away so pull them singly with that. Head forward to the lake. Along the right-side of the lake you will find a floating corpse with a Knight Armor Set.

Keep along this lake and you will encounter a second Hydra. If you dealt with the one in Ash lake you will have an idea of what you are fighting against. You need to close the distance between you and the Hydra so you can hit its heads. Remember there is very little it can do when you are up close. Any range and it will be able to hit you very hard.

Continue along the lake on the left-hand side to find a series of ladders that leads you back to the Darkroot Garden. If nothing else, just quickly head in there, kill something then return to the Darkroot Basin. Head farther beyond the lake. You will encounter an Amber Crystal Golem in the shallows of the opposite end of the lake. Kill this machination to release Dusk of Oolacile beyond it. Freeing her will give you another source of Sorceries. Note that you need to summon her so you must be human to really interact with her to get these spells. The first of the summon signs can be found along the edge of the water.
