Dark Souls Walkthrough Part 7 – Undead Parish (Interior)

Once you have gotten all your equipment upgraded, restocked by quick visiting the Undead Burg via the Firelink Shrine and have had a little time to level up it is time to head into the Church properly. Head across the courtyard from the Bonfire and the Blacksmith into the Church itself. Go up the stairs, nearby the elevator that leads to the Firelink Shrine, to get to the upper level of the Church. Be wary as there is an Elite Undead Guard here that has a rapier and lots to use its counter moves.

Finish going up the stairs and head to the left. Do this slowly as there is a large zombie horde none too far from here and the Channeler likes to enchant them. You want to lure them to you one at a time (or more if you have Firebombs) to make it more manageable. If you can lure the Channeler to you he will go down very easily.

Now head to the area where all the Zombies were.  Cross over to the other side of the church and head to the right first. There you will find a corpse with a Large Nameless Soul. Collect this now head straight down the way. You will find a slightly illuminate wall, for now, continue past that. Follow this path to its end to find a corpse with Humanity in it. Now return to the wall. Roll or cut through it. Head up the stairs in this area. If you grabbed the Mystery Key that was pointed out earlier you can free Knight Laurtrec of Carim from his cell. He promises a reward but pointedly states later. This just means the next time you make your way to the Firelink Shrine he will be there to give you Sunlight Medallion. You can find him on the down the stairs below the Bonfire. Next head back to the opposite end of the church, next to where you found the Large Nameless Soul, and take the ladders up to the top of the church. If you are not hollowed, and spoke with Solaire earlier in the game, you can summon Solaire to aid you in this battle.

Up there, transverse the light and through it you will find the next boss, the twin Bell Gargoyles. They take some mercy on you initially only sending one. The second will join the fight later on. It, blissfully, will only have half health. Take that for what it is worth. The main thing to do first in this hack off the Gargoyle's tail. You get a powerful axe for it which is very nice. It can be tricky to simply cut off the tail but any time you get behind the gargoyle while it is attacking is the best time to get at him. The best idea is to keep moving and guarding while keeping as much of the roof between you and the Gargoyle(s) as possible. This is especially true when you need to heal up. If you are a spell caster, incidentally, you have a solid advantage. If you have some Gold Pine Resin, that one boost item will inflict a lot more damage making the fight notably easier. Just keep away from the ledges!

After the fight there are some items to collect but that is for the next segment.
