what is this ability referring to? I'm assuming it means itself? because one can argue that this card is not named Kozilek but rather "Kozilek, Butcher of Truth". Or is there a card named Kozilek

It's referring to itself. Whenever a legendary creature refers to itself mor ethan once, it shortens its name for every instance after the first See Godo, Bandit Warlord for instance.
