    No. A creature "dies" when it is sent from the battlefield to the graveyard.

    Then it was exiled and didn't die.

    "Dies" means "is put into a graveyard from the battlefield."

    A dying Serra Avatar would turn on morbid. A dying creature with Void Maw out won't. The difference is that Serra Avatar has a triggered ability that triggers when it's put into a graveyard, whereas Void Maw creates a replacement effect that replaces being put into a graveyard with being exiled.
