There are two ways to get pearls in Happy Aquarium.

First, you get a pearl for each new level you go up.

Second, you buy them. That's how the HA people make the money. They hope you are willing to pay real money to play the game.

It's kind of smart marketing. You get to play the game without paying anything. However, if you really want to get some of the really nice stuff, you need to plop down some real money. Notice that somethings can ONLY be gained through pearls.
