Teacher assigned this math problem today. Need some help on solving it.
1) Anticipating significant growth in air travel industry, you've placed orders
totalling $2600 million to buy new aircraft that would sit a total of
4500 passengers. Some aircraft were Boeing 747s that cost $220
million each and seat 400 passengers and Boeing 777 that cost $150 million
each and seat 300 passengers. Others are European Airbus A321 that cost
$50 million and seat 200 passengers. You were instructed to
buy twice as many American manufactured aircraft as foreign aircraft.
Given the selection of 3 aircraft, how many of each type of air craft did
you order?
2) Due to recent economic conditions you've been told to change the order
for new equipment you made several years ago. The new aircraft had
not been received and placed into service yet because of the long lead
time to manufacture such complex and sophisticated equipment. The
revised budget for new aircraft is now $1820 million for 800 fewer total
passenger seats. At this point in production Boeing charges $50 million
for each 747 aircraft canceled and $40 million for each 777 aircraft
canceled. In a similar way Airbus charges $15 million for each A321
aircraft canceled.
Given that all other criteria remain the same, how many of each type of
aircraft did you cancel?
