What Gameboy model are you trying to play it in? There are one or two unlicensed GB games that only work on the original.

Clean the cartridge (with alcohol and a Q-tip), if that doesn't work, clean the cartridge port on the system.

do you mean, it doesn't post the Nintendo Logo, it doesn't turn on at all, its garbled, the game freezes.

It's most likely dirty or corroded contacts, open the cart if you can and wash the Connectors with Windex (with Ammonia) to remove the dirt and corrosion then use a White Hi-Polymer Eraser to rub on the contacts until they are dirt free and shining.

If the game freezes while saving the Battery is dead.

If you don't have the proper Safety bit to open the cart, you can google "How to open Nintendo Games with a Pen" but take caution during the tool creation.

It's probably a cleaning issue. I would recommend getting a Game Cleaning Kit if you want to play it safe... I had a friend that ruined their Gameboy with the alcohol/Q-tip method. This website has a kit and also sells the Triwing Screw Driver you'd need to open it up for repair and cleaning:
