New forums feature: Embedding of youtube videos

I've seen many posts include and/or discuss videos from YouTube.

To make the Forum experience more enjoyable for those wanting to link to YouTube videos, I've created a custom bb code youtube tag to enable embedding the videos into the posts themselves.

How do you use it? Simple. Just find the URL of the video you want to embed, for example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVHGy9XEF9I

Take the Video ID, which is the part after the "v=", and in this case "JVHGy9XEF9I"

Copy and paste it between youtube tags like this (but remove the space inside the tags):

[ youtube]JVHGy9XEF9I[ /youtube]

How come it didn't work for me :( it looks ok at first but then when I try to play it, instead of playing the video it turns into a black screen which says "Embedding disabled by request"

I just posted a couple of videos and had no problems...maybe you did something incorrectly?

Well when users post videos on YouTube they can opt to disable embedding in external sites. It should say so on the right of the vide on the youtube page, something along the lines of embedding disabled by request.

So if the video you want to post has embedding disabled, either look for the same video which has the embedding option enabled, or just post the link to the video instead.
