i dont think its expensive, for just 1U you get a 2/1 creature and it gives flashback to any creature in your graveyard which can be useful even though that ability doesnt do any good except on the turn the mage entered the battlefield

It gives ANY instant or sorcery in your graveyard flashback. It's so abusable.

Counterspells, removal, library manipulation, etc. Everything you've cast can be cast again. Snapcaster Mage has a powerful effect. It gives you more out of your spells.
