To clarify: you can certainly activate a regeneration ability for your creature. However, because exiling and destroying are not the same thing, it won't do much to a creature that's being exiled.

Regeneration only prevents destruction -- if your creature is being exiled, sacrificed, or has its toughness reduced to 0, it's not being destroyed, and as such regeneration doesn't help at all.
