Dragnet was a police action series that ran from June 1949 to February 1957 on the NBC radio network. It was the first police series that detailed every single step involved in police work. The street cops would often discover a crime, then the detectives would investigate and gather evidence. The questioning of witnesses and suspects was typically included. The show even went so far as to show the mundane tasks involved in police work like filling out paperwork.

Jack Webb, who stars as Sgt Joe Friday, brought Dragnet to radio in 1949, with much assistance from Sgt. Wynn and legendary LAPD chief William H. Parker. He had tremendous respect for those in law enforcement and often said in interviews that he was angry about the "ridiculous amount" of abuse police were subjected to by the press and the public. Dragnet is a welcome break from the 'politically correct' world we live in. It is also refreshing in that the criminal is punished.
