Default World of Warcraft Miniatures game: A rules arguement I had with my friend

I was playing a wow minis game against a friend, and this situation came up:

I used a Flamestrike from my action bar. Flamestrike states:

Target a space and 2 spaces adjacent to it and each other.

My friend had 2 enemy figures in the AOE.

Now, the deluxe starter set rulebook says on page 22 (and it SPECIFICALLY uses Flamestrike as an example): "Make a separate attack roll and defense roll for each defender"

However my friend insisted that I need to make only 1 attack roll. I showed him the rulebook but he says the rules have changed since.

    Who is correct?

Your friend was correct. Since the printing of that rules booklet, the rules have since changed.

Check out the comprehensive rules section 601.1a on page 16:

"If there are multiple targets, only one attack roll is made and applied to each target"
