Sealed 24 BOTTLES of 46664 NELSON MANDELA HIV/AIDS MESSAGE IN A COCA COLA BOTTLE

26/08/2008

The television commercial shows a boy using an empty Coca-Cola bottle to get Mandela's AIDS message around the world. At the end of the commercial Nelson Mandela's voice is heard highlighting the massive HIV/AIDS problem and asking people for help. “[HIV/Aids] is not a disease any more, it's a human rights issue,” says Mandela in the advertisement.

One million empty coke bottles containing Nelson Mandela's message asking people to join the fight against HIV/Aids were placed all over South Africa in the run-up to World Aids Day on December 1, 2007. Coca-Cola donated R1-million to the 46664 project and pledged their support to the 46664 concert on World Aids Day by selling limited-edition “Style my Coke” bottles, the proceeds of which went to the cause.

Managing Director of Stick, Nicole Wills, said, “it took us two months to get the commercial done and ready to coincide with the World Aids Day concert [December 1, 2007], but it took us four years to work on the entire Hello project.”

“We're absolutely thrilled, it'' fantastic,” Wills said on winning the award, adding that it was especially rewarding “to get recognition for a project that has meaning.”

Chantal Cuddumbey, 46664 Communications Manager, added that “this project was a labour of love for all concerned and this accolade is extremely well deserved”.

The Loerie awards, dubbed the “Oscars” of the communication industry, were launched in 1978 as a tool to support and develop television advertising. They now include all facets of brand communication.

Nelson Mandela's message reads:

Hello.

All over the world a silent tragedy is unfolding. Today, especially in Africa, AIDS is claiming as many lives as all the wars, famines and floods that have ravaged the continent. It is devastating families and communities, overwhelming and depleting healthcare services, and robbing schools of both students and teachers.

This is not a disease any more, it's a human rights issue. It's time to break the silence.

We need your help. 46664 and Coca-Cola are partnering to make a difference to the millions of people affected by this pandemic.
