which starter to pick platinum

I am gonna start to play pokemon platinum!

which starter pokemon should I choose?

Well, turtwig is Grass, Chimchar is fire and piplup water, and you want to get the strongest.

Note: This is not telling you which to pick, but explaining each pokémon's differences.


Chimchar (i chose him) evolves into a monferno which is a fire/fighting type. This can be useful if you decide to evolve him before the first gym battle, and the second, because fighting is super effective against rock(The first gym battle), while the fire is strong against grass(The second gym battle). Infernape is the final evolution in this chain. This is a good starter pokemon in my opinion.

Piplup evolves into a Prinplup which is a water type. Rock is extremely weak to water, which is an advatage in the first gym battle. Empoleon is the final evolution in this chain.

Turtwig evolves into a Grotle, which is a grass type. Rock is extremely weak to grass, so this is a good starter pokemon for the first gym. Torterra is the final evolution in this chain.

Keep in mind that each of these will have to deal with Bidoof, Geodude, Kricketot, Shinx and Zubat. So, pick which you think is going to be strongest VS these. In my opinion, Chimchar is better, but take into account all of the stats and strengths and weaknesses.

Also, train to level 10 - 14 before leaving Jubilife city. lvl 14 evolves it. And, catch a Shinx and a Starly. and train them equally

Yea and make sure you teach Monferno Mach Punch and Fire Blast (fire blast when it's Infernape) and teach Staraptor Close combat when it evolves from Staravia also teach Luxio Bite and Luxray Crunch. Also make sure you capture Gible in wayward cave. Its at the north end of the bike route under the bridge.
