    The short answer, a while.

    Each Pokemon will have a different number of steps that you need to take before it will hatch. If you don't have a Pokemon next to it with either the Flame Body or Magma Armor ability, expect to walk any where from 5,000 to 8,000 steps for it to hatch.
    Finally, a new generation of Pokemon for us to enjoy. There is much to look forward to in 2011!
