Default Question About Declaring Blockers and Protection from (color)

    Here's the Scenario:

I play white weenie ally, say I have 3 white allies on the battlefield, my opponent is playing blue/white control and has a Celestial Collonade out. I declare attackers, in response my opponent animates the collonade and blocks, can I Brave the Elements (protection from chosen color) in response to him animating the collonade and not blocking? Giving my creatures protection from blue making the damage swing through?

Ok let's say the same scenario except my opponent is playing white weenie ally as well. He has 3 creatures out that are white and I have 3 creatures that are attacking. In response to my attack my OPPONENT plays Brave the Elements, Can I respond to his Brave the Elements with my own Brave? Giving My creatures prot white and making the damage swing through before he declares blockers? or can he just play brave the elements on his creatures and block before I get a chance to do anything?

On scenario #1 you don't get priority from him paying a cost to activate his Colonade so he is going to be able to declare blockers before you get priority back to cast Brave the Elements.

On scenario #2 if your opponent cast Brave the elements before declaring blockers then you do get priority back before he declares them so you could play your own Brave thus your resolves first and his resolves second making him unable to block at that point assuming you call white as your color.

This isn't right. The Colonnade's activated ability works just like any other, meaning it can be responded to like normal. You can cast Brave the Elements before it resolves and tuns the Colonnade into a creature so he can't block with it. Or, you can even wait for the ability to resolve and animate the Colonnade and then cast Brave the Elements. The game won't move on to the declare blockers step until you pass priority.
