I know but tropical island says it counts as forest and islands which ARE both basic lands so how come you cannot fetch it?

for example if a spell tells you to fetch a red creature I know you can get a creature which is both red and green even though it is multicolored and not just red, so why doesnt this apply here?

Because Tropical Island isn't a basic land. It has two basic land types, but that doesn't make it a basic land.
