Why does lightning bolt go on the stack and Path to Exile does not?

So I play Talus Palidan, a 2/3 creature but when he comes to play he gets a +1 +1 counter on him, so my question is this....


Can someone play lightning bolt, on the stack, before talus Palidan's +1/+1 TRIGGERED ability (from entering the battlefield) hits, killing him when he has only 3 life before he gets the +1+1?


If so, how come you cant path to exile Iona (or any other creature) before thier triggered abilities resolve?

Can you damage a creature on the stack but not exile a creature on the stack?

Yes, you can Bolt the Paladin before its triggered ability resolves.

The reason you can't Path Iona is because Iona doesn't have any triggered abilities. Her abilities take effect as soon as she hits play, with no time in between to do anything.

And no, you can only damage a creature in play.
