    who exactly is dealt damage if i cast ashes to ashes?

    It says right there on the card, the controller of Ashes to Ashes is dealt 5 damage.

    It makes perfect sense, because exiling two creatures is a very powerful effect.

    Think of it this way - if those two creatures would have dealt you more than 5 damage, you've essentially gained life by casting Ashes to Ashes.
