That made no sense. How does stopping your opponent from gaining life win you the game? What's stopping you from blocking the creature, or killing with with Doomblade?

But really, many decks don't even run life gain at all, how does not being able to gain life lose you the game?

if i am affected by stigma lasher and i cast Nefarious Lich and then I cast something to gain life do I draw the cards?

No. Nefarious Lich replaces the act of gaining life with drawing cards, but once you've been hit by Stigma Lasher, you are unable to gain life - therefore, there's nothing for Nefarious Lich to replace.
