Default magic the gathering rules can you fizzle a spell on purpose

Can I Fizzle my spell on purpose if I no longer want it to resolve?

A spell is only countered/removed from the stack if there's a specific reason for it. Among those reasons are the following:

    - All of the spell's targets have been made illegal by the time the spell attempts to resolve
    - The spell is countered by the effect of a card like Counterspell or Cancel
    - The spell is exiled or otherwise removed from the stack by something like Mindbreak Trap or Time Stop

You cannot simply make a spell "fizzle" by just saying you no longer want it to resolve. The rules of the game simply don't work that way. It would be the same as trying to discard for no reason, draw for no reason, or gain/lose life for no reason: all of these things are also impossible without an actual effect/game rule causing you to do them.
