the card i have just says to destroy a non black creature. But what i need to know is if you destroy blocking creature are you no longer blocked?

No. Once an attacking creature becomes blocked, it remains blocked all throughout combat. Removing the blocker doesn't make the attacker become unblocked. Unless it has trample or a similar ability, it won't deal damage.

If you wish to prevent a creature from blocking one of your creatures, you'll have to destroy it before it's declared as a blocker.

Of course, that being the case, you run into the problem of your opponent simply being able to block with one or more of their other creatures, assuming they had more on the battlefield. So, if you want to prevent your opponent from declaring blockers entirely, you'll have to tap and/or destroy all of them prior to the declare blockers step of the combat phase.
