Persist on a 1/1

Ok, I have a Quillspike out.

This turn i play Cauldron Haze and have him as one of my targets, my Quillspike then blocks something that deals enough damage to send him to the graveyard.


Question is:
Will he come back to the battlefield at all, and if so am i able to use his own ability or any other ability to remove the -1/-1 counter from him before he dies again.

No. State-based actions kill it before you get the chance to do anything.
