mtg play spell land is spell dragon's claw mountain gain 1 life?

if i have dragon's claw in play and other player casts mountain do i gain life or is mountain land not a spell?

ok you got just about everything mixed up you possibly could here.

1. lands are not spells

2. lands are colorless

you dont cast lands you play lands that a very big diffrence. also no matter what color of mana a land produces it is colorless because color is defined by the rules as follows:

if a card has any colored mana symbols it is each of those colors. if an effect creates a token its rules text will state what color the token is. otherwise it is colorless. if a rules text states that the card has a color it has that color in addition to any it already has. e.g. Pact of Negation or Hypergenesis. the color of the frame or color of mana a card produces says nothing about its color. so a green frame as on the hypergenesis does not make it green the rules text does. if a spell or ability changes the color of a card (spell or pemanent) it is only the color it has been changed to for the duration of the change. if the effect only changes the color of a spell or a permanent but not both the color change will end when the card is no longer a spell or permanent. if a spell or ability gives a spell or permanent an additional color it will kepp all of its previous colors and be the new color additionaly. e.g. Painter's Servant. appart from that adding a color works like changeing the color.

the color thing can be quite confusing at times. especialy since a lot of magic players refer to mountains as "red land" for example. "red mana producing land" would be more correct.
