attack w/ Vampire Nighthawk 2/3 lifelink vs Guul Draz Vampire 1/1 how much life gain

If I attack with Vampire Nighthawk 2/3 lifelink which gets blocked by Guul Draz Vampire 1/1 do I gain 2 life (because Vampire Nighthawk's power is 2 and he does 2 dmg to Guul Draz Vampire even though 1 dmg is wated

or do I only gain 1 life since Guul Draz Vampire has 1 toughness so I only do 1 damage to it?

ignoring the fact that the guul draz vampire has no flying and thus can not block the nighthawk you gain 2 life.

118.3e Damage dealt to an object or player by a source with lifelink causes that source's controller to gain that much life, in addition to the damage's other results.

so you gain life equal to the amount of damage you deal not equal to the amount that would kill a blocking creature.

also note that lifelink aside the guul will recive 2 damage so an effect that says prevent 1 damage would not be enough to save it.

no. you deal 2 damage to the blocker since you deal all your damage at once not one after the other untill he's dead.
