    Default gain control of target creature

    if a card says "gain control of target creature" can I target a creature in the graveyard?

    no. the wording is not realy good now that you mention it. never thought about that ^^.

    the explanation is that gain control implies that someone already has control over the creature. that subsequently requires the creature to be on the battlefield / in play.

    in graveyard its not a "creature" but rather a "creature card"
