why would anyone use Abyssal Persecutor if you cant win?
why would anyone use Abyssal Persecutor if you cant win?
Because you can sacrafice him if you build your deck around him, not to mention it is a very good 4 drop.
As a four mana huge beatstick that can be sacrificed at a moment's notice with Nantuko Husk or similar.
Fluttershy is best pony.
You can also give him to an opponent...
I would prefer just to kill him off rather than give him to an opponent but least you have alot of options once your done buisnessing with him.
Oh yeah...there are enough options for creatures that have setbacks...always was...you could also cast Abyssal Persecutor and then play a Stifle right after it...Stifle is probably unusable in any of the non-casual games you all play in but hey, at least I'm trying to give examples...
Same thing with Eater Of Days...just play Stifle right after it and you have a 9/8 flying creature out with trample for 4 mana without having to skip two turns...
I have to say there is very little downside to possible turn 3 and most definetly turn 4, 6 drop creature especially with plenty of removal to get rid of him.
I'm thinking a nice R/B Deck will work really well :P
Here is the deck I have put together for him...
CREATURES: 13
4 Abyssal Persecutor
3 Bazaar Trader
3 Gatekeeper of Malakir
3 Vampire Nighthawk
SPELLS: 23
4 Act of Treason
4 Bone Splinters
3 Blightning
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Sign in Blood
4 Terminate
LAND: 24
15 Swamp
5 Mountain
4 Dragonskull Summit
So basically you keep them with a clear board with Gatekeeper, Terminate, Bolt, Blight (discard), Nighthawk and Bone. Meanwhile you can beat them down with Abyssal, Gatekeeper, Nighthawk. Then you can either kill your Abyssal with the tons of removal you have or give it to your opponent with the Trader.
On a side note Trader also has great synergy with Act of Treason as I can Treason their guy to my side then use trader to give myself perm control of it.
I think if I where to run some black I would have to agree with Twanos I think splashing red is a very good idea. I like the idea of Mono-Black but there are alot of good red spells and burn stuff that is just to darn useful.
I decided to buy a box of Worldwake and I happened to pull this card. Tonight I decided that I would make a deck around him and here is what I have come up with.
3x Abyssal Persecutor
1x Vampire's bite
4x Skitter of Lizards
3x Goblin guide
4x Hellspark Elemental
4x Ball Lightning
4x Bull Rush
2x Kindled fury
4x Lightning bolt
4x Terminate
4x Blighting
Lands
4x Teetering peaks
3x Dragonskull Sumit
2x Bajuka Bog
2x Smoldering Spire
6x Swamp
6x Mountain
1x Launclaw reaches
There are plenty of ways to get rid of Abyssal Persecutor when done with him and this takes elements of RDW and allows them to be splashed in with black. Low cost creatures like Goblin guide get pumped up by a low costs spell like bull rush and then lay a teetering peaks that makes a goblin guide go from a puny 2/2 to a strong 6/2 and Ball lighting with a teetering peaks and a vampire's bite goes up to an 11/1. There is some room for improvement which is where forums come in handy, this is just a quick brainstorm and an idea to build upon.
When you say give to an opponent, what do you mean? Can you play a creature to the opposite team's side, then it is under their control or something?
for example donate or bazaar trader
4x Abyssal Persecutor
4x bizarre traders
2x conquering manticore
2x gate keeper of malakir
3x Vampire Aristocrat
4x Bloodthrone Vampire
3x dead reckoning
2x Traitorous Instinct
4x Mark of Mutiny
4x act of treason
4x Terminate
Lands
2x Teetering peaks
4x Dragonskull Sumit
8x Swamp
8x Mountain
2x Launclaw reaches
You can steal the other players cards, attack with the, then sac them with your vamps or keep them permanent with the trader. Beat down with the Persecutorr and after you bring your opponent to 0 you can trade him to the opponent, sac him with a vamp or terminate.
