do attacking creatures use tap effects?

Hi all, am really starting to understand this game, thanks for all your help with the rules so far.

I do have another rules question:

Lets say I attack with ghost warden. Ghost warden has the ability:

Tap: Target creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.

Ok so I am attacking with it so I tap it to attack. Does the ability activate as well- so I can attack AND get the +1/+1?

If you attack it taps them, and you cannot use their tap ability.

This is a decision you'll have to make many times, whether to attack with the creature or use its tap ability.
