It's kinda like fear. If you attack with someone that has intimidate, that creature can only be blocked by artifact creatures and/or creatures that share a color with it.

    702.11. Intimidate
702.11a Intimidate is an evasion ability.
702.11b A creature with intimidate can’t be blocked except by artifact creatures and/or creatures that share a color with it. (See rule 509, “Declare Blockers Step.”)
702.11c Multiple instances of intimidate on the same creature are redundant.
702.11d At this time, there are no cards with intimidate. It has been added to the rulebook in advance.

(Last line is not accurate any more though since Zendikar now has cards with intimidate)

the old fear is no longer. there will be no new cards with fear. they now have intimidate. that does not meant that creatures with fear now have intimidate. they are 2 seperate things. just that fear is discontinued and its place taken by intimidate.

fear specivicly states that the creature cant be blocked by creatures except artifacts and black creatures. a black creature with intimidat will almost alway do the exact same thing.

if however you have a card that allowes you to change a color word you can change fear to say cant be blocked exept by green and/or artifact creatures. intimidate does not have a color word so you cant change that. its no big difrence but it is a difrence.

also if you change the color of a creature with fear nothing happens. if you change the color of a creature with intimidate then it also changes what intimidate does. for example you have a green creature with intimidate. now someone playes a Painter's Servant naming blue. now your creature is also blue so blue creatures can block it. since now all creatures are blue intimidate doesnt realy do anything any more ^^.
