how does zendikar landfall rule work

cards with landfall will have instructions on something that happens when you play a land for example:

Steppe Lynx W
Creature - Cat
Landfall - Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, Steppe Lynx gets +2/+2 until end of turn.


So you play steppe lynx, and then whenever you play a land it gains +2/+2 till end of turn

almost true but its not when you play a land but when you put a land onto the battlefield under your control. this means landfall also works with fetchlands, harrow etc.
