IIRC, and unless they've changed the rule, a creature with protection from a certain color (or other source) can't be damaged, targeted, or destroyed by anything with that color (or source).

That's not entirely right. They can't be damaged, targeted, enchanted/equipped, or blocked by what they have protection from, but that's it. A creature with protection from white will be destroyed by Wrath of God, for instance.
