does shroud mean no instant can be cast on card

no shroud means that the card with shroud can not be the target of spells (or abilitys) when its on the battlefield.

you can counter a creature with shroud.

you can discard a creature with shroud.

you can force an opponent to sacrifice a creature and he can legaly choose a creature with shroud and sacrifice it.

generaly if a spell or abiliy does not say target (and mean the creature, not a player or something else) shroud will not help.
