Basic Lands you can have as many as you want.
Non-basic Lands you can only have 4 of each.

As you probably know, you have to have a minimum of 60 cards in your deck. A rule of thumb is that a deck be 1/3 land. So, in a 60 card deck, you should include at least 20 lands. Or in a 100 card EDH deck, you should include at least 33 lands. You get the picture. Personally, I usually go with 20-24 lands, depending on the deck's mana curve. If I need more than 24 lands, it's time to put in mana accelerators such as Talisman of Dominance or what have you. In a multioclored deck, I try to include at least one land per two cards of corresponding color. For example, if I had a deck with 22 white spells and 18 blue spells, I would mix in 11 plains and 9 islands. If you want to make a deck with more than two colors, get your hands on some lands that produce multiple colors of mana and include the appropriate ones as above.
