    It works as both a land and a creature, and follows the rules for both. That means you can only play it during your main phase with an empty stack, and only if you haven't played a land this turn. It can't be responded to or countered. It's affected by summoning sickness. It counts as a Forest for everything that counts Forests. It can attack or block like a normal creature, or it can tap for green mana. And so on.
    Fluttershy is best pony.

    Quick question: since Dryad Arbor counts as a forest, does that mean it also counts as a basic land?

    No, having a basic land type doesn't mean it counts as a basic land.
