    Arix is on point here. Literally, the only reason you lose the game is because the rules say that you do. It's the same reason why you lose the game when your life goes to 0. If the rules didn't give you any stipulations for losing the game, then you'd never lose -- it's as simple as that. Here's the excerpt from the Comprehensive Rules, in case you need 'em:

    704.5b If a player attempted to draw a card from a library with no cards in it since the last time
    state-based actions were checked, he or she loses the game
    You'll note that you only lose the game when you attempt to draw a card from an empty library. If all the cards from your library are taken out by an effect that didn't cause you to actually draw the cards, you won't lose on the spot. Of course, the draw step isn't optional, so you'll very likely lose when you try to draw a card during your next turn.
