why would i choose to lose 2 life and get closer to losing instead of just paying a mana
A common mistake by new players is overvaluing life. Tell me a few things:
1. Do you block a 3/3 creature while you're on 20 life?
2. Do you think Yawgmoth's Bargain is a bad card?
3. Do you prefer Shivan Oasis to Karplusan Forest?
1) if i have a blocker that might not dies like a 4/4
2) yeah why pay 1 life when you can draw for free??
3) yeah maybe you can cast it one turn later but you get the colored mana for free for the rest of the game
I figured as much. Here's something that may blow your mind - Yawgmoth's Bargain was one of the most powerful cards of its time, and is still massively powerful today. Hell, it's banned in legacy and restricted in vintage, that's how powerful it is.
One thing you'll learn about the game as you get more experienced is that life should be seen more as a resource rather than something to hoard and protect. After all, whether you win the game on 1 life or on 20 life doesn't make a difference.
