    Ward of Lights
Ward of Lights (Mirage) - Gatherer - Magic: The Gathering

It's a creature enchantment card which grants the creature protection from the color of your choice.

You can play it during your main phase. If you do, it stays in play even after the turn is over, as an enchantment.

However, you may also choose to play it as an instant, instead of as an enchantment. If you do, the protection it grants only lasts until the end of the turn, and the card goes on top of your graveyard after it resolves like any other instant.

This card is a white card. Should you choose to play this as an enchantment during your main phase, and should the color you choose be white, Ward of Lights will still stay attached to the creature, even though it is white.

The last bit was added because normally, when a creature is given protection from a color, if that creature has an enchantment of that color attached to him, that enchantment would fall off and go to the graveyard.

This is wrong. Playing it at "instant speed" doesn't actually turn it into an instant - it's still an enchantment, you're just playing it as though it had flash. If you cast it any time you couldn't have cast a sorcery (for example, during any step other than your main phase, during someone else's turn, or while something else is on the stack), then you sacrifice the enchantment at the end of the turn.
    Fluttershy is best pony.

oh, yea, good catch. Yea, my bad. I was reading the old text on the card's picture, and not the updated version typed out to the right. The outdated wording threw me off. I was thinking, "Well, it doesn't say as though it were an instant. It says as an instant. I guess it must become an instant." Even though I had never heard of anything like that before :-P
