    Default learning to play magic the gathering trample

    HI all, just starting to learn to play magic

    How does this trample thing work exactly?

    Normally, if an attacking creature is blocked, it deals all of its combat damage to the blocker. However, if it has trample, it only needs to deal enough to the blocker to kill it, and the rest can go over to the defending player. For example, if I attack you with a 4/4 trampler and you block with a 2/2 and a 1/1, I only have to deal 2 to the 2/2, 1 to the 1/1, and the other 1 can go over and be dealt to you.

    There's a little more to it than that, but that's the basics.

    also, protection does not prevent trample

    To be more specific about that, you only need to assign enough damage to the blocker/s to kill it/them. It doesn't matter how much damage would actually be dealt, or if that damage would actually kill the creature.
