How does assigning blocking damage to multiple creatures work in magic?
How does assigning blocking damage to multiple creatures work in magic?
You choose (assign) how much of your blocking damage to do divided any way you choose to the attackers that creature blocked. Remember, unless specifically stated otherwise blockers can only block 1 creature.
So if I attack you with a llanowar elves (1/1) and a Grizzly Bear (2/2) then you block the bear with a Serra Angel (4/4), you can do 4 damage divided as you choose to the creature(s) you blocked. In this case you only blocked the Bear so all 4 damage will go to it.
If on the other hand you blocked with a Ironfist Crusher (3/3) and therefore blocked both the elves and the bear you would then choose how to deal your damage. You cold do any of the following...
3 dmg to the bear and 0 dmg to the elves
2 dmg to the bear and 1 dmg to the elves
1 dmg to the bear and 2 dmg to the elves
0 dmg to the bear and 3 dmg to the elves
Obviously the 2 dmg to bear and 1 to elves will be the choice you make in this scenario since you will kill both his guys.
