Valuable as in older vintage models, or newer? They produced a 40th anniversary car seen here:

Or, a early model pink Beach Bomb (1968) was sold for $60,000. Long story, non production car, needed modification for full production.

    Quote from the article:

"Collaborating with Mattel on the jeweled Hot Wheels car was a dream project for me," said Jason Arasheben, president & CEO of Jason of Beverly Hills. "The car is truly spectacular and will be a brilliant addition to anyone's collection."
So, where is that Hot-Wheel now? did someone buy it? couldn't find that information in the article.

Not sure. I heard it was auctioned off for charity.

Very nice, blue diamons used to mimic the Spectraflame paint.

Would have certainly wanted to see that car in person, very amazing.

How about for more "common" models (like not ultra rare one of a kind ones) what are some very valuable ones?

There's too many castings and variations that change values. Color affects value, as well as Hong Kong made or US made, interior color, etc.
The best thing to do is buy a guide book for referencing. I think the most accurate is The Ultimate Redline Guide Second Edition by Jack Clark and Robert Wicker. Amazon is a good place to find this particular guide book. No guide books are perfect, but this one seems to be the most useful. I've looked at others that are way off base, and show the values way too high and unrealistic.
    Hope this helps...

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check out that book.

I hope this site puts up a Hot Wheels Rarity Guide
