Yes, but the defending player's creature still stops a portion of trample equal to it's toughness.
So if a 7/7 with trample was blocked by a 3/3 with protection from the attacking creature's color, than the active player is free to distribute the remaining 4 points of damage among the defending player and other defending creatures.
