Default 1953 Gillette Superspeed Razor w Blades

1953 Gillette Superspeed Razor w Blades
RICHARDS RAZORS; MAKE ME AN OFFER I CAN'T REFUSE!

1953 GILLETTE SUPER-SPEED DOUBLE EDGE SAFETY RAZOR IN VERY GOOD+ CLEAN WORKING
CONDITION. THE RAZOR MEASURES 3 1/4 INCHES IN LENGTH & IS MADE IN THE USA.
A ONE PIECE TWIST TO OPEN RAZOR, TWISTING THE BOTTOM OF THE RAZOR OPENS THE
HEAD. THE RAZOR USES DOUBLE EDGE BLADES. THERE IS A DATE CODE OF Y-2
INDICATING the second quarter of 1951. The razor weighs in at 54g and feels
very good in the hand. There is no plate loss or rust on this great razor
which will give many fantastic shaves in the future. Also included with this
great find is an unopened pack of Topaz Platinum DE Blades just to get you
    started.

The TTO Superspeed was Gillette's main fixed blade model from 1947 until
well into the 1970s at the least. The specimens from '47 through '51 have no
date codes on the underside of the head. These are the original classic
Superspeeds. They are extremely well made, and are fairly mild shavers. In
the early '50s they changed the design a bit, making the turning knob at the
base slightly flared, and changing the knurling pattern. During this period
they also produced versions with a blue turn knob ( milder than the regular
one ) and one with a red knob ( more aggressive ). The regular '50s flare
tip is also a fairly mild shaver although perhaps a shade more aggressive
    than the original model.

The build quality remained high, although not perhaps quite as high as the
original. In the early '60s the razor was redesigned. The geometry of the
head was changed, it became a bit more aggressive and the build quality
started to go down hill, although it was still quite decent. By this period
they were focusing more on their adjustable models. Pretty much all the
Superspeeds are good shavers, but the ones from 1948 through the late '50s
are the very best I think. Starting in 1951, Gillette put date codes on the
razor heads. These codes will tell you the year and the quarter in which a
    given razor was manufactured.
