I assume you are getting the Access Denied Message but we need more detail. Please explain what you are doing when this occurs including the email provider the account is connected through.

    Thanks

Ok a few things to try, first go to the Comcast Email site and verify that you can log in. Once you have done this.
Go into you outlook and retype your user name and password so that you can verify that the Username/Password is indeed correct.

To get there Click Tools\Accounts\Your Email Account\ Properties Button (On the Right).
Stop on the "General Tab" and verify that your email is entered Correctly.

Then Click the "Servers" Tab, Everything that can be filled in you should see "My Incoming Mail Server is a POP3"

Below that (this may have changed but is very unlikely)

    Incoming Mail (POP3) mail.comcast.net
    Outgoing Mail (smtp) smtp.comcast.net

Below that the "Incoming Mail Server" this is where you need to retype you Login for the Comcast Webmail site to verify that it is correct.

Now go down to "Outgoing Mail Server" and Put a Check in box for "My Server Requires Authentication"
After that Click "Settings" on the right. and Put a Check in the "Use Same Settings as my Incoming Mail Server".
Then click "Ok" and "Ok" and finaly close on the Accounts Menu. Close Outlook and then Relaunch it. You shouldn't have anymore troubles.

But if you do...Go bac into Tools\Accounts\Your Email\Click Properties. Then click the "Advanced" Tab.
The first Item you see "Outgoing Mail (SMTP)" will typicaly have 25 in the box, Change this to 587.
Also make sure the option below it "This Server Requires a Secured Connection" is UN-Checked. After that Click "Ok" and then "Close" and restart Outlook.

If the above solutions do not fix the problems. Give Comcast a ring and make sure none of the "Server Names" and "Ports" that I instructed to check have been changed. Don't be shy to release the Comcast Rep and try for a more knowledgeable one either. . If they check over everything with you and its all in order but you still cannot send. They may reffer you to Microsoft, don't bother they do not support Outlook Express anymore.

Post back here with a run down of what you did, if its not working still. 1 more thing, check the clock on your PC and make sure the time and date are correct.

    What happend? You ask.

Well about a year or so ago Comcast Created the "Smartzone" and began migrating everyone's email there. When they did this they also added Secure Login as a requirement. Which is what we told outlook to do by verifying your Username/Password and checking "My Server Requires Authentication." This is a security messure to keep people out of your email.

The other possiblity is that Comcast may have closed Port #25 for your account. This is the Port that Outgoing mail typically passes through on the internet. They typically do this if the SMTP Server sends a flag Notifying of Large quantities of email being sent from a residential connection. Usually due to virus infection.

Thanks, did what you said and it seems to work now. The Outgoing mail server was not set to smtp.comcast.net so I changed it to smtp.comcast.net and it worked. Though have never touched this dont know why it broke suddenly

That is a bit odd, but glad we resolved it. You should probably run a Disk Check to correct any data corruption in the file system. Data corruption can cause odd errors like that.

    Here's How:

(Note this will take a while set it when you dont plan on using the pc for a couple of hours).

Click your Start Menu on the bottom Left (4 color Flag in Vista).

Click to Open "My Computer" on the right of the Start Menu (simply "Computer" for vista).

This will display a menu with 2 or More Icons representing you Hard Disk Drives.

Typically the Hard Drive we want will be the "C" Drive, it named something like "Windows" or "HP Owner" ect. They other one may say "Reserved or Restore" ignore it.

Once you have located you Primary Hard Drive (Usually C) then Left Click it to Highlight it and then Right Click it to display the context menu.

At the bottom of the Context Menu select "Properties" this will pop open a window with tabs.

Click the "Tools" tab and Click the "Error Checking" ("Check Now") button. In this new Menu Put a Check Next to both Options
"Automatically fix file system Errors" and "Scan for and attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors" then Click "Start"

In a second or so you should Receive a Message from Windows stating that It cannot perform the disk check as there are too many files in use, However it will offer to
peform the disk check on the next restart. Click the "Ok" or "Schedule Disk Check" button." You will see another prompt stating that a "Disk Check has been scheduled"

From there you can reboot whenever you are ready (you can finish whatever you were doing) once you reboot. The computer will begin to Restart normal but after the
Windows Loga you will see a black screen with text stating "A Disk Check has been schedule for Disk (C or whatever your drive letter was) press any key to cancel..."

Just let it run its course when it gets to 100% of Stage 5, your PC will reboot itself and then load into windows normally.

This should take care of alot of slow downs and odd bugs you may be experiencing (especially in XP). Remember to run a Disk Check about every 1-2 months depending on
    your pc usage.
