ipod says it's charging but isn't plugged in

Why would my ipod say its charging when it isnt even plugged in

Theres is a short or sofware error, if its under warranty. Then you should replace it.

You can try this and see if it helps. If you use windows, I'm not sure the steps required for MAC and my mac guy is asleep.

Ok in windows plug it into the USB or Firewire port, after Windows Recognizes and reads the hardware. Once it states that it is ready. Click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in your system tray. (Next to the clock bottom right corner). and Select you iPod.
