Default Re: how to backup outlook express

Haven't done this before myself but it should go smoothly.

Ok first step Create an "Outlook Backup" Folder preferably on your Desktop.

Backing Up the Address Book

Now Open OE (Outlook Express) and Click on "File" then "Export". Browse to your "Outlook Backup" folder and save the file as a Text Document named "Address Backup". To restore this just click "File", "Import" etc.

Backing Up Your Mail Account

Click "Tools" then "Accounts" and Left-Click to highlight your Account Name. From there just browse to the "Outlook Backup" folder and save. Do this for each account of course. To restore just use Import.

Backing Up Your Messages Method 1

Click "Tools" then "Options" and click the "Maintenance Tab" look for the 2nd button down on the right hand side labeled "Store Folder" click this and it will display the location of your emails.

So Copy (ctrl + c) the address (something similar to C:\Documents and Settings\Admin Account\Local Settings\Outlook\etc).

After it is copied just go up to the Address Bar at the top of the menu and Paste it in (ctrl + v) and press enter or you can just browse to it.

Inside this folder will be all of your emails, Just Press (ctrl + a) to copy them all and Paste them into their own "Email Backup" Folder inside the "Outlook Backup Folder".

I would suggest creating a text document with the Location for the emails (C:\Documents and Settings\Admin Account\Local Settings\Outlook\etc) so it will be easy to place them back again.

Backing Up Your Messages Method 2

Thisis generally a good idea, encase of Hard Drive Crashes and Virus Damage. You can make OE leave copies of you emails in your Inbox on its respective server (Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.).

To do so Click on "Tools" then "Accounts" then the "Mail" tab. From there click Your Account and "Properties" on the right. Once inside click the "Advanced Tab" at the bottom of this menu you will see a heading for "Delivery" under this put a Check next to "Leave a copy of Message on Server" and un-check "Remove from Server after # of Days".

From there just click "Apply" (unless grayed), then "Ok" and finally "Close".

Let me know if I missed anything.
