Anyone know, if the C64 was such a huge success, and the C128 was an upgrade to it, how come the C128 wasn't such a huge success as its predecessor?

I thnk most people bought the C64 for the games. The C128 just didn't offer much more than the Commodore 64 in terms of gaming. Maybe for those wanting to program or use for business applications... but the majority just wanted to either play games and maybe write small programs in BASIC, and for that the Commodore 64 sufficed.
Yeah people would buy the C128 and then just use it to play C64 games in C64 mode
I also never got a C128, stayed with my Commdore 64 and still have it today
