How do you copy a commodore 64 game disk

I have some original c64 games which I want to play but I want to play on a copy of them so that I do not risk damaging the original floppy disks.

How do I make copies of games?

I remember I used to have this copy program in which you would put the original disk in then the screen would blink and flicker and then you would put the blank disk and the screen would flicker again and you would repeat the process until the disk was copied...but I cant find that program anymore

so how do I go about making copies

Not 100% sure but without a parallel connection it might be not possible to copy original disks, due to copy protection.
Watch out for tools like Burst Nibbler, Maverick.

If it's a non multiload game it might work with cartridges like Action Replay, Super Snapshot etc., just freeze the game after loading and save it to disk.

I used to make lots of copies of games when I was a kid (from my friends) but dont remember how I did it, I think a friend copied games for me

The program I used to use was called Maverick. Maybe you could find a ROM of it somewhere and save it an actual disk?
