fullscreen mode in VICE emulator

I am doing the 102 course and have installed the VICE Commodore 64 emulator. But when I switch to fullscreen mode, it does go fullscreen but most of the screen is black and the blue BASIC console itself is small and in the middle. what am I doing wrong

Under options, make sure that both Double Size and Double Scan are checked. Under Settings->Video Settings, set resolution to 800x600
